Focus is a Skill, Not a Superpower

Some people seem born with laser focus. They sit down, lock in, and knock out deep work like it’s nothing.

Meanwhile, you’re five minutes into a task and somehow already scrolling Twitter.

Does this mean they have a gift you don’t? Nope.

Focus isn’t a superpower — it’s a trainable skill. And just like any skill, it improves with the right approach.

Why Most People Struggle with Focus

The biggest myth about focus? That it’s about willpower.

In reality, focus fades because:
❌ You’re overwhelmed (too many priorities = no clear direction).
❌ You’re distracted (your environment works against deep work).
❌ You’ve never trained focus (because nobody teaches this skill).

If you’re easily distracted, it doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means you need practice, not punishment.

How to Train Your Focus Like a Muscle

1. Start with short, structured sprints. Instead of aiming for a full workday of focus, try 13-minute intervals (like in the Spurteen method). Train endurance over time.
2. Make focus frictionless. Remove unnecessary choices, set clear intentions, and keep tools within reach. The less setup, the faster you lock in.
3. Use a reset ritual. Struggle to focus? Have a simple, repeatable action (like a deep breath, a specific playlist, or closing all tabs) that signals it’s time to start.

You’re not doomed to distraction. You’re just untrained.

Start small. Train focus like a muscle. And watch your ability to lock in grow.
