So what is a queen consort, anyway?
And what are the royalties for such royalty?
The term queen consort caught my attention yesterday, I assume like everyone else. It intrigued me, and I wondered what it meant.
Because I tend to think too much, I also wondered who decides this role and what a royal gig like this is worth.
First, what is it and what does it entail?
The queen consort is the wife of the reigning king, while the queen regnant is a queen who reigns independently — and someone who has inherited the throne from her father or another relative.
Let’s break it down some more.
The queen consort is NOT the queen because she did not earn that title herself; rather, she married into it.
A good example would be Princess Grace of Monaco, who was the queen consort of Rainier III, Prince of Monaco.
This fancy title is something that hasn’t happened in the United Kingdom since 1952 when King George VI died and Queen Elizabeth became the Queen Mother.
Until yesterday.
With the death of Queen Elizabeth II, Charles will now reign as King with his current wife, Camilla Parker Bowles as Queen Consort.
